CLEVELAND, Ga.— Montreat's women's tennis team traveled south to Cleveland, Ga. on Saturday to face the Truett McConnell University Bears in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) team match. After beating the Brenau University Golden Tigers on Friday, the Cavaliers continued their winning ways and took the match by a score of 6-1.
In the doubles matches, the Cavs (3-10, 3-4 AAC) won two of the three to snag the point.
Ainhoa Ordonez and
Chiharu Ito won their match, 6-1.
Clara Roman and
Annika Rojas triumphed, 6-2, in their pairing.
Ali Zakariasen and
Kate Hutson lost their battle, 6-2.
In the singles clashes, Montreat won five of the six matches against the Bears (4-8, 2-5 AAC). Ito swept her opponent with two 6-0 victories. Both Ordonez and Roman were victors with 6-2, 6-1 scorelines. Rojas' match also lasted just two sets. She triumphed, 6-3, 6-0. Zakariasen won her match after it went to a third set. She came away victoriously after beating her opponent to 10 points in the final frame, 10-7. Hutson was the only Cav to lose. Her final scores ended 6-1 and 6-0.
The top four players for Montreat all finished with a maximum of 18 wins in the competition. Zakariasen concluded her day with 14, and Hutson had three.
Up next, the Cavaliers will visit the Milligan University Buffaloes for another AAC team match on Monday. First serves are slated for 1 p.m.
