CLEVELAND, Ga.— The Montreat men's tennis team traveled to Cleveland, Ga. Saturday afternoon for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) battle versus the Truett McConnell University Bears. After beating Columbia College earlier this week, the Cavaliers notched their second consecutive AAC victory with a 7-0 triumph over TMU (4-8, 1-5 AAC). Following the win, Montreat improved to 3-9 (3-3 AAC) on the year.
Victories on all three doubles courts put the visitors in front right out of the gate.
Youssef Idboufous and
Daniel Garcia Estrabot grabbed a 6-1 win in the top pairing, while
Danel Diez and
Ibai Lopez secured the 1-0 team lead thanks to a 6-2 triumph at No. 2.
Jorge Cebria and
Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar seized the third doubles clash, 6-3, for good measure.
All six singles matchups went the Cavs' way in straight sets. Idboufous surrendered just one game across two frames at No. 3, while Cebria lost merely one game in each set on the fifth court. Garcia Estrabot and Gehlhaar dropped a total of three games each at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively. Diez won via a pair of 6-3 frames, and Lopez built on momentum from a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak to cruise in his final set, 6-1.
Montreat heads to Milligan, Tenn. on Monday for an AAC showdown against the Milligan University Buffaloes. Doubles play is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
