COLUMBIA, S.C.— Montreat's men's tennis squad faced the Columbia College Koalas in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) team match Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers won the battle by a score of 6-1.
The Cavs (2-9, 2-3 AAC) won the doubles point courtesy of three victories.
Danel Diez and
Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar triumphed in their match with a 6-0 win.
Daniel Garcia Estrabot and
Jorge Cebria also won. Their match finished 6-3. To round out doubles play,
Youssef Idboufous and
Ibai Lopez won 6-2.
Montreat continued its dominance over the Koalas (5-3, 2-3 AAC) and won five of the six singles matches. All the contests concluded in straight sets. Garcia Estrabot was the victor in a match that ended 6-0 in the first set and 6-3 in the concluding set. Lopez and Cebria won from 6-1 and 6-0 scorelines. Idboufous triumphed in a two-set match as well.
Connor Sechrist came out on top, 6-1 and 6-2. Diez was the lone Cav to lose his match. He lost 6-2 and 6-4.
Individually, four Cavaliers tied for the most games won on the day with 18. Garcia Estrabot, Idboufous, Lopez and Cebria all achieved the mark. Sechrist and Diez each had 12.
Montreat will face the Truett McConnell University Bears in their next AAC team match on Saturday. First serves are slated for 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Ga.
