GAINESVILLE, Fla.— The Montreat men's and women's track & field teams continued their weekend slate in Gainesville, Fla. with day two of the U.S. Marines NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships. While the men didn't have anyone competing on Friday, three women represented the Cavaliers across a trio of events.
Dylan Garcia kicked off the action late Friday morning with the women's one mile prelims. The Franklin, N.C. native qualified for tomorrow's final with the second-fastest performance out of 20 runners. Garcia needed just 5:01.67 to wrap up her race.
Jessica Gakeri participated in the women's long jump during the early afternoon window. Utilizing a leap of 5.41m, Gakeri placed 23
rd among a field of 31 jumpers.
Garcia was back at it again in the women's 1000m prelims. The senior notched the fastest time out of 19 competitors thanks to her 2:51.36 showing. Garcia's mark, which also proved to be good enough for finals qualification, fell just 0.03 seconds shy of matching her own school record.
Brooke Wiebe also ran in the event, finishing 17
th with a time of 3:01.94.

Montreat closes out its time in Gainesville, Fla. tomorrow with six events. Gakeri gets the day started with the women's triple jump at 11:30 a.m.
