CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Competing as a squad for the first time since May 20, 2022, the Montreat women's tennis team began its spring slate with a match against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals. Going up against an NCAA Division I foe, the Cavaliers landed on the wrong side of a 6-0 final to start the year 0-1.
Queens (1-6) took both doubles clashes by 6-1 scorelines to secure the early 1-0 lead over the visitors.
Chiharu Ito and
Ainhoa Ordonez played together as Montreat's top pairing, while
Annika Rojas and
Clara Roman served as the No. 2 grouping for the Cavs.
The Royals claimed all five singles matchups in straight sets. Rojas gave the hosts their toughest challenge by taking two games in each frame at No. 4. Playing on the No. 3 court, Roman snagged a pair of games. Meanwhile, both Ito and Ordonez seized one game during their matches.
With Monday's match versus Johnson University being postponed, Montreat now returns to competition next Wednesday for a home showdown with Belmont Abbey College. Start time and location is yet to be determined.
