WALESKA, Ga.— For the first time in his collegiate career, Montreat College's
RJ Manginello is a player of the week award winner. According to a release from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) office Monday afternoon, Manginello is this season's second AAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honoree.
While the Cavaliers dropped a pair of tight contests against quality competition last week, Manginello stood out on the court. Between the two matchups at Union Commonwealth University and versus (RV) Georgia Gwinnett College, the Houston, Texas native averaged 25.0 points per game (PPG), 6.0 assists per game (APG) and 5.0 rebounds per game (RPG). Playing a total of 65 minutes last week, Manginello shot an efficient 45.2 percent overall (14-31 FG), 42.9 percent from deep (9-21 3-pt FG) and 86.7 percent at the charity stripe (13-15 FT).
Through five games this season, the junior point guard is averaging a career-best 19.0 PPG, 4.4 APG and 4.4 RPG.

Manginello and the Montreat College men's basketball team dive back into conference play on Wednesday with a road trip to Columbia International University. Tipoff between the Cavaliers and the Rams is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
