WALESKA, Ga.— Five players from the Montreat men's basketball team were honored for their efforts on the court this season as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) released its All-Conference awards Tuesday evening.
Jarden Maze highlighted the honors as the Sandersville, Ga. native was named First Team All-Conference. Maze, who led the Cavalier offense down the stretch of the regular season, captained the team by scoring 14.9 points per game this year. The sophomore shot 42.2 percent overall and grabbed a team-best 6.1 rebounds per contest to stake claim to his award.
Jamiel Wright, who started 17 of 21 contests before suffering a season-ending injury, tallied Second Team All-AAC recognition. Wright made 44.0 percent of his shots en route to an output of 14.1 points per competition. The Atlanta native also contributed 4.3 rebounds per game, a team-high 3.0 assists per contest and 1.6 steals per matchup.
Mike Flenory made the league's All-Defensive Team as the senior snatched 4.3 boards per game and stole away 1.2 opposing possessions each showing. Flenory mixed in 2.4 assists offensively to go with his stout defensive play. Newcomers
Michael Erbeck and
Gabriel Rivera landed on the All-Freshmen Team to round out the accolades for performances on the court. Erbeck shot an efficient 43.9 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from deep to score 7.3 points per game, while Rivera hit 46.3 percent of his tries overall and averaged 5.9 points per matchup. The former totaled 3.0 rebounds per game and nearly averaged an assist (0.9) and steal (0.8) per night on an average of just 14.2 minutes. Rivera hauled in 3.1 boards per game and notched 1.3 helpers per matchup.
In addition to the basketball honors,
Tyler Murray was named Montreat's representative on the Champions of Character Team and six Cavs earned All-Academic Team recognition. To qualify for the academic honor, players must be of at least sophomore status and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25. Those players were

Men's basketball now plays Point University in the quarterfinals of the AAC Tournament on Thursday. Tipoff of the contest at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
