Women’s Soccer Clinches Home Quarterfinal with Win at Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn.— The Montreat women's soccer team ended its regular season with a road trip to Tennessee for a matchup with the Bryan College Lions Saturday afternoon. Following a pair of first-half goals by Jamie White and an insurance tally from Sam Aalbue, the Cavaliers notched a 3-0 win to secure an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Quarterfinal at Pulliam Stadium next Saturday. The victory also moved the Cavs' record to 11-5 (10-4 AAC) on the season.

Montreat controlled the matchup from the start as the Cavaliers outshot the Lions 7-0 in the opening half. Just 11 seconds into the contest, Olivia Ostwalt forced a save from Bryan's goalkeeper and the visitors tested the BC goalie another two times in the first 10 minutes of the game.

After another saved attempt, Montreat finally broke through in the 27th minute. Jamie White stole the ball from a Lion defender and slotted the ball home to give the Cavs a 1-0 advantage. White doubled the Cavaliers' lead only 4:29 before the intermission, finishing off a pass from Charlotte Craver to make it 2-0 at the half.

The second period resulted in more of the same as Montreat coasted to its seventh clean sheet of the season. Outshooting the home side 11-2 over the final 45 minutes, the Cavs collected a third score late in the match. Sam Aalbue netted her fifth goal of the year with six minutes remaining off a corner from JJ Aalbue as the Cavaliers saw out their triumph. Overall, Montreat tallied 18 shots to Bryan's mere two, including an 11-1 total in shots on goal.

"It was a great team effort tonight. We made smart choices out of the back, moved the ball well and were productive on set pieces," said head coach Kristin Eggert.

Women's soccer now hosts an AAC Tournament match Saturday, Nov. 4 against the Columbia International University Rams. Kickoff in Black Mountain, N.C. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
