WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— The Montreat women's wrestling team traveled to the University of the Cumberlands for a tri-dual against the No. 8-ranked host Patriots and the No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors. After dropping both Mid-South Conference (MSC) matchups, the Cavaliers moved to 3-15 in their inaugural season of competition.
 
Two pins by Indiana Tech and a forfeit by the Cavaliers gave the Warriors a quick 15-0 advantage over Montreat through three weight classes in the first of two duals; however, Trinity Howard responded for the Cavs at 123. Howard, the No. 13-ranked wrestler in her class, pinned her opposition, the No. 16-ranked wrestler, in just 1:47 to get the Cavaliers on the board. Despite the five team points from Montreat, Indiana Tech (18-5) notched another pair of falls and a tech fall before the Cavs forfeited the final three bouts resulting in a 44-5 final score.
 
In the second and final dual of the night, Cumberlands (10-9, 3-2 MSC) won the initial four bouts thanks to two pins, a tech fall and a forfeit to lead 19-0. Michaiah Allen then pinned her opponent at 130 in 1:30 to bring the score to 19-5, but the Patriots utilized another tech fall, an additional pin and three forfeits to defeat the Cavaliers 43-5.
 
Women's wrestling now sends athletes to the Robert Horton Open in Franklin Springs, Ga. on Sunday.
