BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.— The Montreat women's track and field team hosted its Last One Best One meet on a rainy Friday in Black Mountain, N.C. As the Cavaliers competed in a dozen or so events, the squad put together a solid day, tallying one school record, one win and six other podium finishes.
Makayla Anderson helped get the day started with a bang late Friday morning. Already the owner of Montreat's women's hammer throw record, Anderson surpassed her previous-best mark by 0.64m thanks to a 36.40m throw. The distance earned the Kannapolis, N.C. native a fourth-place finish among those competing.
Dominating the 800m as she's done all season long,
Yessenia Castellanos came within a second of breaking Montreat's record in the event, a time she set earlier this year. Castellanos was the lone Cavalier to take home a first-place result on Friday, finishing the 800m in 2:18.26, 5.5 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Anna Tastinger was one of the rare Cavaliers to participate in multiple events at the Last One Best One meet, and she proved to be a fierce competitor in both. In the 100m hurdles, Tastinger sprinted to a second-place result (16.70 seconds). Later, in the 400m hurdles, Tastinger finished third when she nearly caught the program-record mark with a time of 1:13.4.
Adrianna Gullette continued her stellar freshman campaign with another high-level effort in the 100m. Coming within 0.15 seconds of a program record, Gullette dashed 100m in just 12.84 seconds. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native placed second overall in the event thanks to her speedy showing.
Montreat etched out three other podium finishes on Friday via a trio of third-place results. In the field events,
Kylie Millner finished in the No. 3 spot in the javelin after throwing her implement 25.45m, while
Triniti Lockhart ended third with a 4.91m leap in the long jump. Meanwhile, on the track, the 4x100m relay team placed third with a 51.62-second effort.
