HICKORY, N.C.— Splitting up between the Flames Invitational hosted by Lee University and the LR Bears Invitational at Lenoir-Rhyne University, the Montreat women's track and field team collected a few impressive marks and times. Overall, the Cavaliers set two school records as the squad continues to improve ahead of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships.
Jessica Gakeri broke her own school record in the triple jump at the LR Bears Invitational, leaping to a personal-best and NAIA "A" standard 11.78m to win the event. The freshman also added a 5.39m effort in the long jump to place third at the meet.
Catherine Slack also tallied a school record, breaking a 13-year-old time in the 3,000m steeplechase over the weekend. Slack bested the previous time by 17 seconds to claim third (11:57.86), while
Jenna Mallory (12:32.71) and
Raquel Smith (12:49.91) rounded out the top five.
At the Flames Invitational,
Dylan Garcia nearly notched the school record in the 800m. The freshman ran 2:20.24, just .16 seconds slower than the school mark, to lead five Cavaliers in the event and finish 19
th.
Adrianna Gullette collected a third-place result in the 100m dash with a time of 12.98 seconds, and
Anna Tastinger added a fifth-place time in the 100m hurdles (16.86) to complete the top results in the short distance events.
Addison Teter ran the 1,500m in 6:00.56 to end seventh.
In the field, Tastinger vaulted over 2.55m in the pole vault for fourth, and
Makayla Anderson registered the fourth-best hammer throw of the meet at 33.33m.
Kenzie Card finished sixth in the event with a throw of 30.31m. Smith (20.78m) and
Kylie Millner (19.78m) concluded the javelin in ninth and 10
th place, respectively.
