WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— The Montreat women's wrestling team concluded action at the Patriot Duals in Kentucky on Saturday. With an 0-5 performance through the five duals, the Cavaliers now sit at a 1-9 dual record for the 2022-23 season.
In the Cavs' first match of the day, an early forfeit awarded Montreat five points; however, three pins and a forfeit in Campbellsville Black's favor put the Tigers up 20-5.
Gabriella Majewsky got a point for scoring in her decision loss and a late forfeit provided the Cavs with another five points, but it wasn't enough as CU Black won 27-11.
Two forfeits for each team had the score level at 10 between William Penn and the Cavaliers through four bouts.
Bella Hoffman then gave the Cavs their first advantage of the day with a 14-2 result at 130 to make it 14-11 before
Marissa Delacruz pinned her opposition in 2:29 at 136, bringing Montreat's edge to eight (19-11). Despite the lead, WPU responded with 18 points over the final four matchups to claim a 29-19 victory.
In the third dual of the tournament, Montreat took a 5-0 edge thanks to a forfeit at 101; however, Emmanuel stormed back with three falls and two forfeits to lead 25-5. Majewsky once again put up a fight at 143, collecting a 4-2 loss while earning the sixth team point for the Cavaliers. The Lions earned two pins and a forfeit to close out the match with a 43-6 triumph.
After dueling with Emmanuel, the Cavs battled Brewton-Parker Orange. BPC captured the first two matches via falls to lead 10-0. A pair of forfeits leveled the bout before the Barons reclaimed a 5-point edge with a vital pin at 143.
Nicole Lewis answered for the Cavaliers, who knotted the contest at 15 thanks to Lewis' fall triumph in 1:23 at 155. Each team forfeited one of the remaining two bouts, resulting in a 20-20 scoreline. Ultimately, Brewton-Parker Orange won the tiebreaker due to its three falls compared to Montreat's one.
The Cavs then faced Siena Heights, who defeated the team 33-14 on Friday, in the final dual of the competition. Despite a pair of forfeit wins for the Cavaliers, SHU tallied four pins, three forfeits and a 10-0 victory in the other eight bouts to claim a 39-10 triumph.
Women's wrestling now competes at the Baron Duals, hosted by Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga. on Dec. 10.
