WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— The Montreat women's wrestling team made program history Friday afternoon during the initial day of competition at the Patriot Duals, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Wrestling against four different schools in Williamsburg, Ky., the Cavaliers picked up the program's initial dual triumph in their final action of the day. Following the duals, the Cavs record moved to 1-4 on the season.
 
Montreat began its day with a matchup against the No. 17-ranked Missouri Valley College Vikings. While the Cavs ultimately fell by a 41-7 score, Gabriella Majewsky and Bella Hoffman delivered strong performances to get the Cavaliers on the scoreboard. Wrestling at 130, Hoffman won a back-and-forth matchup thanks to a 10-5 decision. Meanwhile, Majewsky dominated her bout at 143 and claimed a 10-0 tech fall triumph.
 
The Cavaliers won three separate bouts in their second dual of the day against (RV) Siena Heights University. Ivana Munoz (101) and Majewsky (143) notched forfeit wins to earn five points each, and Trinity Howard cruised to a 10-0 tech fall victory at 123 with her impressive showing. Despite those wins, Montreat ended the dual on the short end of a 33-14 scoreline.
 
Montreat's toughest opposition of the day came against the NAIA's second-ranked team, the Campbellsville University Tigers. The Cavaliers put forth a valiant effort and won a pair of bouts, but the No. 2-ranked Tigers were too difficult to overcome in Cavs' third dual as Montreat dropped the matchup, 38-9. Chloe Carver scored five of Montreat's nine points thanks to a forfeit at 109, while Howard seized her second consecutive 10-0 tech fall win at 123.
 
In their final action of the afternoon, the Cavaliers achieved history against the University of the Cumberlands Patriots red team. Powered by a 6-win effort, the Montreat women's wrestling team secured its first dual triumph, 30-15. Montreat coasted to the win thanks to five forfeit victories and a swift Michaiah Allen pin (0:20).
