SB Ast Coach Kelsey Long Headshot 2023-24

Kelsey McCue-Long

The Montreat College Athletics Department announced the elevation of Kelsey McCue-Long to head softball coach in July of 2025. She enters her first season as the program's head coach in 2026.

PRIOR TO MONTREAT

McCue-Long spent one month as the Cavaliers' interim head coach after serving as the pitching coach for 2024 and 2025. With McCue-Long’s tutelage, the Montreat pitching staff saw massive improvement. After registering a team ERA of 4.75 during the season prior to her arrival, the Cavs recorded a 3.64 ERA in 2024 and a 2.99 ERA in 2025. The Broad Top City, Penn. native also coached the NAIA’s 2025 saves leader, Victoria Alcantar.

In addition to achieving 30-plus wins in back-to-back years, McCue-Long helped Montreat snag a 7-3 victory over No. 21 Midland University during the 2025 campaign. The triumph proved to be the Cavaliers’ first over a ranked foe since 2018.

Prior to working at Montreat, McCue-Long spent five months as Spartanburg Methodist College’s pitching coach.

McCue-Long also holds coaching experience at the prep level in Simpsonville, S.C. From 2021 through 2023, she served as Woodmont High School’s varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach. During that same time frame, she acted as the director, owner and 18U head coach of Elite Diamondcats, where she helped more than 15 players land spots at schools across the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. McCue-Long spent 2019-2021 coaching at Ralph Chandler Middle School as well.

A 2014 graduate of Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Penn., McCue-Long played softball for two years while earning her associate’s degree in nursing. She is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in sports management at Spartanburg Methodist.

McCue-Long lives with her husband, Scott, and their two children.
