Christopher Intoppa

  • Title
    Director of Athletic Communications
Hired in January of 2020, Christopher Intoppa worked as the Director of Athletic Communications at Montreat for nearly five years. He concluded his duties in August of 2024.

As SID, he managed and oversaw the communications for all 23 athletic teams. The primary contact for 12 sports, Intoppa handled duties concerning statistics, broadcasting, video, social media, the athletic website, game programs, media guides, graphics and award nominations. He increased reach on social media, developed templates for both graphics and game programs and drove the growth of sports information at Montreat through a plethora of avenues, including video production and strategic decision-making. As a member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC), Intoppa contributed to NAIA-SIDA through assistance with both the programming committee and the publications committee for two years.

At the end of the 2022-23 school year, Intoppa garnered recognition as the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Willie Belcher Sports Information Director of the Year recipient, marking his first such award and the first honor for Montreat in the award's 12-year history. In November of 2023, he was also one of five NAIA SIDs to be named to CSC's second-ever 30 Under 30 class.

PRIOR TO MONTREAT

Intoppa came to the Cavalier family in January of 2020 following a short stint at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. As an assistant in the department, he was the primary contact for women's soccer, men's and women's golf and baseball, while assisting with other sports in the NCAA Division II program, as well.

Prior to being hired by Palm Beach Atlantic, Intoppa worked as a graduate assistant in athletic communications at Southeastern University, an NAIA institution in Lakeland, Florida. He gained experience in the field through two years as a graduate assistant after spending his senior year as a student assistant in the department, while covering aspects for all 18 athletic teams. Throughout the summers in Lakeland, Intoppa acted as an official scorer and stringer for the Gulf Coast League's Tigers East and Tigers West baseball teams. He also performed duties in the press box for the Lakeland Flying Tigers, the high A affiliate in the Detroit Tigers organization, working closely with media staff to ensure accurate presentation of game day materials.

During his time at SEU, Intoppa completed an undergraduate thesis and fulfilled his internship requirement in the athletic department at the University of South Florida. He was also a kicker on the football team his freshman year.

In April of 2019, he obtained his master’s degree in business administration after receiving his B.S. in Sport Management from Southeastern in 2017.

Intoppa and his wife, Leah, reside in Asheville, N.C.
