Head coach Caleb Snyder is proud to announce the addition of Justin Herbert to the Montreat College Track & Field and Cross Country programs.

Coach Herbert begins his first year as an assistant cross country and distance track coach at Montreat College after coaching last cross country season at Central Methodist University. Herbert, a 2008 graduate of Cedarville University, has a passion for working with Christ-focused athletes and hopes to bring his passion and commitment to the Cavalier program. Herbert is a USATF Level II certified coach in the distance events and will work with Montreat athletes competing in XC and track events ranging from the 800 meters to the marathon.

As an athlete, Herbert was a seven-time NAIA national qualifier for the Cedarville Yellow Jackets and served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. In XC, Herbert capped off his career with a 55th place finish at NAIA nationals in Kenosha, Wisconsin, finishing in a time of 25:39. On the track, Herbert excelled in the marathon. In 2007, he finished 10th at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the marathon, finishing in 2 hours, 30 minutes, 52 seconds. Also in his time a Cedarville, Herbert qualified for the 2007 USA 10-Mile Championships where he finished 40th overall.

Herbert received his bachelor's degree from Cedarville in education with an emphasis in history and math as well as a minor in Bible, and he is currently in the final year of his graduate school program where he is pursuing an MA in Educational Leadership.

"I'm really excited about Justin joining us. He has a very strong desire to work in a Christ-centered program, and has a very strong passion and knowledge of distance running. I think he will do a great job of continuing the development of our distance crew according to the mission of our college," said Snyder about the new addition.
