Following an impressive inaugural season of Montreat Men's Wrestling in 2020-21, Norman Manning was hired as the first men's wrestling assistant coach in program history. In September of 2021, Montreat announced the decision to add women's wrestling as a varsity athletic program, naming Manning as the program's first head coach.
Manning joined the Cavalier family after extensive time at Limestone University in Gaffney, S.C. The Binghamton, N.Y. native worked at Limestone as a student assistant coach while getting his bachelor's degree in 2015 and 2016.
Upon receiving his degree in physical education, Manning continued helping with the Saints' program for the next few years. As a volunteer assistant coach, he guided a team that amassed 29 wins and only 17 defeats from the 2016 season through 2019.
Prior to coaching experience, Manning started at multiple institutions as a wrestler. First at Tompkins Cortland Community College, he competed from the 141-lb class to the 165-lb class, starting for the Panthers in 1998-99. After his time at TCCC, Manning then was the primary wrestler in the 157-lb class at Limestone for the remaining seasons of his collegiate career.
