Caleb Thornburg returned to his alma mater after being hired as an assistant men’s and women’s track & field coach in November of 2022. His duties began immediately as the programs’ 2023 seasons were already underway, and he concluded his second season with the Cavaliers during the 2023-24 academic year.
PRIOR TO MONTREAT
Thornburg rejoined the Montreat community following short stints at Brewton-Parker College and Converse University. The Dallas, N.C. native assisted primarily with throws at BPC for the fall semester after serving as a graduate assistant at Converse. While with the Valkyries, Thornburg coached the women’s high jump runner-up at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championship. He holds USA Track & Field Level I Certification.
Prior to coaching, Thornburg competed at Montreat from 2018 to 2021. He was a part of several Appalachian Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Thornburg also ran in the 4x100m relay at the NAIA Track & Field Championships in 2019 before graduating with his degree in communications.
Thornburg is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports management from Gardner-Webb University.
