CORBIN, Ky. — The Montreat College men's and women's cross country teams added to their list of season honors on Tuesday morning. According to an announcement from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) office,
Macy Parks and
Angel Cruz each earned their second AAC Cross Country Runner of the Week selections of the season. The honors also marked the second time this season that the Cavaliers swept the conference's weekly awards.
Both athletes competed at the Tryon Western NC XC Showcase on Friday, recording top-10 finishes in fields that included a plethora of NCAA Division I competition. Cruz placed fifth out of 123 runners in his collegiate 8k debut, completing the course in 26:07.6. His performance helped Montreat secure fifth in the team standings among 14 programs. Only four DI student-athletes bested Cruz in Mill Spring, N.C.
Parks posted a personal-best time in the 5k, taking eighth out of 93 competitors. The Denver, N.C., native covered the course in 18:25.0, contributing to a seventh-place showing for the Cavaliers. Montreat finished with 180 points among 12 teams in the women's race. Like Cruz, only participants from DI institutions, along with
Heather Murphy (unattached), managed to beat Parks to the finish line.
