MONTREAT, N.C. — The Montreat College women's tennis team secured an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory on Thursday afternoon, defeating the University of Pikeville Bears, 5-2, in a home matchup. The Cavaliers controlled the contest by claiming four of five singles matches while also earning a crucial doubles point to seal the win. With the result, the Cavs improved to 3-9 (2-3 AAC), while UPIKE dropped to 0-6 (0-2 AAC) on the season.
Montreat secured one doubles point with a strong performance on its home court. Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza claimed a decisive 6-2 victory on court two. Meanwhile, Catalina Pan and Clara Roman's match at the top position ended in a narrow 6-7 (6-8) loss.
In singles play, Pan set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 position, while Cuiza followed with an equally impressive 6-1, 6-0 win on court three. Horvacki kept the momentum rolling, delivering a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance at the fourth spot.
Kathryn Salazar continued the Cavaliers' strong showing with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Meanwhile, at the top of the lineup, Roman battled against a tough opponent but ultimately fell by a 6-1, 6-2 margin.
The Cavaliers return to action at home on Thursday, March 26, when they host Milligan University in Montreat, N.C.
