CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.— Montreat College's women's tennis team traveled to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament held in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Thursday. In its first-round pairing, it faced the Milligan University Buffaloes. Playing as the five seed in the tournament, the Cavaliers lost to the fourth-seeded Buffaloes. The score of the team match was 4-0.
In the doubles matches, Montreat (4-13, 4-5) fielded two teams and forfeited the final pairing. However,
Chiharu Ito and
Ainhoa Ordonez won their match by a score of 6-1.
Annika Rojas and
Clara Roman lost a close 7-5 battle. The Buffaloes won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
Singles play saw two additional forfeits from the Cavaliers. After already securing the doubles point and the forfeits, Milligan (9-9, 6-3 AAC) only needed to win one of the contested singles matches to secure the team triumph. Ordonez was the first to lose, thus ending the match. She lost 6-0 and 6-2. At the time of defeat, Ito had won set one, 6-0, and was losing set two, 4-2. Roman and Rojas were also in set two at the time. Roman was trailing 3-2 after losing her initial set, 6-3. Rojas was leading set two, 3-1, after winning in the first set, 6-3.
Ito and Rojas tied for the most wins for the Cavaliers. They finished with 14 victories. Following them was Roman with 10 and Ordonez with eight.
With the defeat, Montreat finished its 2025 campaign with a 4-13 record overall and a 4-5 record in AAC competition.
