Men’s tennis drops AAC Tournament match

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.— The Montreat men's tennis team entered the postseason portion of its spring schedule on Thursday. Playing as the No. 5 seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament, the Cavaliers went head-to-head with the fourth-seeded Milligan University Buffaloes, a team receiving votes in the latest edition of the NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Despite a valiant effort, Montreat ultimately suffered a 5-0 defeat, ending its postseason journey as a result.

Milligan (10-9, 5-3 AAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard by sweeping all three doubles battles. The Buffaloes captured the first two clashes via 6-3 scorelines, and they closed out the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.

Needing just three more points to clinch a victory, MU managed to snag four additional wins. The Buffs closed out triumphs on the first, third, fourth and fifth courts to cap off their 5-0 victory.

Daniel Garcia Estrabot forced a third set in his unfinished singles bout. Playing at No. 2, the Almeria, Spain native won the opening frame, 6-3. After losing 6-2 in the second set, Garcia Estrabot owned a 5-3 advantage in the third when the match was halted.

Jorge Cebria also held a lead on the sixth court when play concluded. The freshman won five of his eight games played.

Ibai Lopez claimed eight games at No. 4, while Youssef Idboufous won three games in each of his two sets. Danel Diez seized a pair of games in the top singles matchup, and Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar grabbed one game at No. 5.

With the defeat, Montreat concludes the 2025 campaign with a 4-13 (4-4 AAC) record.
