CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Montreat's men's tennis team opened its 2025 campaign with a match against an NCAA Division I opponent when it traveled to Queens University of Charlotte on Friday. The Cavaliers were shutout in both the singles and doubles matches. Montreat fell to a 0-1 record with the defeat.
The Royals jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead via the doubles point.
Daniel Garcia Estrabot and
Youssef Idboufous were the most competitive Cavs, losing 6-3 in their match.
Jovan Slijepcevic and
Jorge Cebria, along with
Ibai Lopez and
Danel Diez, lost 6-2 and 6-0, respectively, in their paired matches.
In the singles events, no Cav won a set; however, four Montreat players won three games in their matches despite losing. Garcia Estrabot, Idboufous and
Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar won three games in one of their two sets of play. Cebria did it twice, losing 6-3 in both sets of his match. The six straight-set wins for the Royals concluded the team match with a victory by a score of 7-0 over the Cavaliers.
Montreat's men's squad will compete in a team match against the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters on Feb. 21 in Harrogate, Tenn.
