CLEVELAND, Ga.— Montreat College's men's wrestling team traveled to face the Truett McConnell University Bears in a team dual Saturday evening. The Bears garnered 15 votes in the most recent edition of the NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 25. TMU triumphed over the Cavaliers by a score of 29-17. Across a total of 10 bouts, Montreat scored points in three matchups. The Cavs took points from two pins and a tech fall to reach their 17 points.
 
Kane Bryson got things going early for the Cavs, securing six team points with his pin in the first bout of the dual. The marathon of a match lasted 6:53, but the freshman was able to come out on top at 125.
 
The Bears scored their next six points across two battles at 133 and 141. The Cavaliers were not pinned, however, and gave up just three points in each bout from decisions, evening the team score at six points apiece.
 
At 149, Boedi Kirkland secured the second Cavalier pin in 3:52. He added six team points to Montreat's total, putting the visitors in front of TMU 12-6 after the first four bouts.
 
Truett McConnell cut its deficit in half after securing three points from a win via decision. Jack Mathieu countered with five team points for the Cavs after winning his match at 165 via a 19-4 tech fall.
 
The hosts held the Cavaliers scoreless over the next four bouts. TMU tallied points from two pins, a tech fall and a decision to win the team dual by a final score of 29-17.
 
"We did not pull through when it matter most," said head coach Jim Connaghan. "There were small moments of success from our guys, but it was not enough to get the job done today."

The next event for the men's squad is the Georgia Open on Sunday, Nov. 9. Emmanuel University hosts the open tournament in Franklin Springs, Ga. at 9 a.m.
