MONTREAT, N.C.— After the original neutral-site matchup was postponed, the Montreat men's wrestling team hosted the University of Pikeville Bears for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) dual Saturday night. In the Cavs' lone home dual of the year, the Cavaliers tallied a 48-3 victory over the visitors to improve to 4-10 overall and 4-6 in AAC contests.
As the match began with the 285-lb bout, Pikeville (0-12, 0-9 AAC) registered a decision win to lead 3-0. Following a series of five forfeits and a double forfeit, the Cavaliers then went up 30-3 before the 174-lb bout.
In the other two remaining contested matches,
Dalton Towe picked up a fall in 2:39 and
Freddy Guardiola recorded a pin in just 39 seconds to hand the Cavs a 42-3 advantage. The Bears then forfeited for the seventh time to end the match with the 48-3 final score.
"I want to thank all the families of our seniors for letting us borrow their sons and for putting their faith in me as a coach. Today was a monumental day and it was great way to honor our seniors," said head coach Jim Connaghan.
