GATLINBURG, Tenn.— The Montreat men's wrestling team made the trip to Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tenn. on Saturday for the Rocky Top Duals, hosted by Life University. Going head-to-head against four other programs, the Cavaliers fell on the wrong side of the scoreline in each dual. With the four defeats, the Cavs dropped to 1-5 (1-1 AAC) this season.
 
Montreat began its day with its most competitive matchup against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Brewton-Parker College. The Barons jumped out to a 21-0 lead thanks to a pair of forfeits, a decision and a pin. Bryson McCraw got the Cavaliers on the scoreboard with a pin at 157, and Caleb Johnson-White notched a 19-7 major decision at 165; however, two ranked Barons picked up triumphs during the ensuing two bouts to seal the dual. Pins from Seth Williamson and Grant Trotter closed the gap, but BPC still wrapped up a 30-22 win over Montreat.
 
Liberty University seized a 57-0 victory over the Cavs during the squad's second dual on Saturday. Coy Reid and Grant Trotter were the only two Montreat wrestlers to avoid a pin or forfeit versus the Flames.
 
Another quick start gave Rochester Christian University the early edge. Two forfeits, two pins and a decision aided the Warriors in claiming a 27-0 lead midway through the clash. Johnson-White and Williamson registered pins at 165 and 197, respectively, but Montreat couldn't snag the upper hand in the other contested bouts. As a result, RCU walked away with a 42-12 triumph.
 
The No. 7-ranked Campbellsville University Tigers threw top-10 wrestlers out onto the mat for four of the 10 matchups during the Cavaliers' final dual of the day. Celton Littrell and Williamson escaped defeat via fall or forfeit, but CU came away victorious with a 56-0 final behind wins in all 10 weight classes.
 
Montreat closes out the 2024 portion of its schedule on Tuesday with a matinee AAC dual at No. 1 Life. Bouts are slated to begin at 2 p.m. in Marietta, Ga.
