MONTGOMERY, Ala.— Traveling to the state of Alabama for the first and only time this season, the Montreat men's wrestling team made its way to the state's capitol city Saturday afternoon for a non-conference dual against the Huntingdon College Hawks. Braden Wharton picked up a solid victory midway through the dual, but that proved to be the Cavaliers' lone triumph of the day as the visitors dropped a 48-4 final and fell to 0-4 on the season.
 
Starting with a dual-opening pin at 285, Huntingdon ultimately stormed out to a 28-0 lead over the visiting Cavs. The Hawks capitalized on a pair of forfeits at 125 and 141, along with two tech falls at 133 and 149, to secure a commanding edge over the visitors halfway through the competition.
 
Wrestling in the 157-lb. weight class, Wharton delivered Montreat's only team points of the afternoon. The Hickory, N.C. native cruised in his battle and captured a 19-6 major decision that handed the Cavaliers four points on the scoreboard.
 
Huntingdon (1-0) wasn't fazed by its first defeat, and the hosts claimed four more victories in four different fashions—fall, tech fall, decision, forfeit—to close out a 48-4 win on their home mat.
 
In its final action prior to Christmas, the Montreat men's wrestling team battles five different squads next Saturday at the Smoky Mountain Duals. Matchups begin at 9 a.m. at Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
