WALESKA, Ga.— The Montreat men's wrestling team kicked off its weekend in the state of Georgia with an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) dual versus the 13
th-ranked Reinhardt University Eagles. Wrestling on their home mat, the Eagles controlled the dual and downed the Cavaliers by a 47-3 final, leaving Montreat with a 0-2 (0-1 AAC) record as a result.
Reinhardt (2-0, 2-0 AAC) jumped out to an 11-0 edge on the scoreboard thanks to a forfeit at 125 and a tech fall at 133; however,
Jack Hawbaker managed to capture points for the Cavs moments later in his Montreat debut. The Campbell University transfer started quickly and finished with a flurry during a 15-9 decision triumph that trimmed the visitors' gap to 11-3.
Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, Hawbaker's decision proved to be the only victory of the night. The Eagles rattled off two decisions, four pins and a forfeit to close out a 47-3 victory.
Branson Bennett held a 7-5 lead in his bout at 157 before he was eventually pinned by the No. 6-ranked wrestler in his weight class.
The Montreat men's wrestling team remains in Georgia for its next competition, the Life U Open, which is slated for tomorrow at 9 a.m. at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga.
