MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat wrestling team battled the Life University Running Eagles inside McAlister Gymnasium Wednesday afternoon. Ultimately, the No. 2-ranked Running Eagles took the contest by a score of 47-0, dropping the Cavaliers' season record to 4-11 overall.
After a forfeit from Montreat at 125,
Braden Wharton forced overtime at 133. Despite a valiant effort by the Hickory, N.C. native, Wharton dropped a tight 6-4 decision as the visitors went up 9-0 in the dual with an extra-session takedown.
The Running Eagles (16-3) then utilized a string of duals from wrestlers ranked nationally to expand on their lead.
Taquel Young fought to hold his opposition to a decision as Young, who is tied for 20
th in the country at 157, fell to the No. 14-ranked individual in his weight class, 13-7.
Easton Griffin also dropped a close 4-2 bout to the No. 18-ranked wrestler at 165.
Although the Cavaliers surrendered an overtime defeat and two decisions, Life captured a shutout triumph, their fifth such win of the season.

Wrestling is now scheduled to host Brewton-Parker College and Bluefield University on Saturday before the conference tournament next week. Matches against the Barons on Saturday are slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. inside McAlister Gymnasium.
