MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat men's wrestling team hosted a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents inside McAlister Gymnasium on Saturday as the Cavaliers battled both the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears and the Truett McConnell University Bears. The Cavs fought to a pair of wins over their opposition to improve to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in AAC bouts.
 
In the team's first dual of the day, Montreat faced West Virginia Tech. Three forfeits by the visitors paired with a 13-5 major decision by Tony Kuhn Jr. at 133 helped the Cavs out to a 22-0 advantage. After the Cavaliers gave up a tech fall, Josh Mojica-Smith bounced back with a 12-1 major decision victory at 165. WVU Tech (1-4, 0-2 AAC) picked up points at 174; however, a pin by Milosz Gargol in 2:48 at 184 and two late forfeits allowed the home side to take the match 44-8.
 
Patrick Wlodgya put the Cavaliers ahead 3-0 against TMU with a decision win before the lead was extended to nine with a forfeit. A tech fall by Jonathan Zafra at 141 built the edge to 14 and Mohamed Ben Hafsia earned a decision, but also lost a team point due to excessive celebration, bringing the score to 16-0. Another forfeit followed by a pin from Easton Griffin in 6:38 capped off a 28-0 scoring run for Montreat, who clinched the triumph with Griffin's fall. Truett McConnell (1-4, 1-2 AAC) responded with eight unanswered points, but Seth Williamson tallied an 8-0 major decision at 197 to round out the scoring for the Cavs in their 32-14 triumph.
 
Men's wrestling now takes a break for Christmas and returns to action with a pair of home duals against Keiser and St. Andrews on Jan. 7.
