Mic Moore Headshot 2021-22

Mic Moore

Coach Moore joined the Cavaliers in October 2019 from Union College where he spent four years as a member of the Bulldogs tennis team and most recently two years as an assistant coach for the program.

Since his hiring, Montreat has made significant strides on both the men's and women's sides of the program. In 2021, the programs collected their first All-Americans in history as Adam Nagoudi collected NAIA All-American Honorable Mention honors, Stephanie Petit was a First Team All-American, Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen was named to the All-American First Team and Nicole Bueno notched national honorable mention honors. He also coached five Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) All-Conference members, including Petit, who was named the AAC Player of the Year. The women captured the AAC Tournament Championship over Union to claim the program's first-ever conference championship. Due to the teams' accomplishments, Moore was named the 2021 AAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

The teams continued to have success under Moore, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history in 2021. The women's team notched its most wins ever (12) and most conference wins (7), while the women climbed to a program-record No. 5 in the NAIA national rankings and the men moved up to as high as No. 10.

Montreat's momentum continued during the 2021-22 academic year. In the fall, the Cavaliers captured two ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championships, one ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship and one ITA Cup Singles Championship. In the spring, the women's tennis program claimed its first AAC regular season crown, while also repeating as the AAC Tournament champion. Meanwhile, the men's tennis team finished as the AAC runner-up in both the regular season and conference tournament. For individual accolades, on the women's side, the Cavaliers accumulated two NAIA All-America First Team nods, two ITA All-American selections, one AAC Player of the Year award, six all-conference selections and one AAC Coach of the Year award. The women also earned one CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team spot, one CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team nod and one CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year award. On the men's side, Montreat tallied one NAIA All-America Second Team choice, five all-conference honors and the AAC Freshman of the Year. Both teams set program records for wins in 2022, with the women tallying 17 triumphs and the men grabbing 11 victories.

At the 2022 NAIA National Tournaments, the women's tennis program seized its first-ever national tournament win and made its first NAIA semifinal appearance. On the men's side, the Cavs booked their first opening-round bye in program history.

In his first season coaching, the women's program went from being unranked to No. 17 in the country and finished as the No. 13 team his second season. The men's team went from No. 17 his first year to No. 9 his second year.

The Barbourville, Ky. native spent four years studying mathematics at Union College before immediately jumping into his first coaching role with the Bulldogs in 2017. After just one summer of recruiting for the program, he grew the women's team from five student-athletes to 14 and the men's team from 15 to 24.

In his time at Union, Coach Moore coached three All-Americans and seven NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The men's program won an ITA regional singles title and the women won an ITA regional doubles title under his assistance. He also had national tournament appearances both years.
