Women’s track & field achieves program-best national indoor rating

NEW ORLEANS— The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) unveiled its third NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) of the season on Tuesday, and it featured the Montreat women's track & field team soaring to new heights.

While the Cavaliers were capturing their first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) indoor championship, they were also vaulting themselves up to No. 3 in the TFRI. That rating and the 124.58 points garnered during the process are both program highs.

Montreat's 124.58 points were 1.76 better than No. 4 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) but 29.25 fewer than second-rated Marian (Ind.).

The Cavs own six top-five performances in the NAIA, including a pair of top times. Dylan Garcia owns the nation's fastest 1000m effort, while Heather Murphy holds the quickest time in the 5000m. Garcia also has the second and third fastest showings in the 3000m and the mile, respectively. Murphy ranks fifth in the NAIA in the 3000m.

Montreat hopes to live up to its national rating when it next competes at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are set for Feb. 27 through March 1 in Gainesville, Fla.
