BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC – The Montreat College men's soccer team picked up their first win of the year, knocking off Pikeville 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.

The Cavaliers (1-2) got off to a strong start in the first half, scoring three goals while shutting down the Bears' attack.  Francisco Prado (FR/Quito, Ecuador) was very aggressive offensively for the Cavaliers as the freshman scored twice with eight shots on goal. Aaron Trevarthen (JR/McGraths Hill, Australia) also scored twice during the match while Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) also found the back of the net for Montreat.

Coach Brenton Benware was able to get his reserves some valuable experience in the second half as Montreat scored four additional goals to put the contest out of reach. Adrian Ionescu (JR/Queensland, Australia) was one of nine reserves who saw action and he scored one of the four second half goals for the Cavaliers.

Montreat will be back in action on Saturday, September 10th as they host Hiawassee College at 4:30pm at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.


DALTON, GA - The Montreat College men's soccer team dropped a tight 3-2 decision to Dalton State (GA) in an out-of-conference road contest Monday.

The Roadrunners struck first, scoring early in the 13th minute. Montreat would get an equalizer courtesy of a Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) strike in the 21st minute to tie the match at 1-1. Defense would prevail for the remainder of the first half as they teams would enter halftime still tied.

Forty-seven minutes of scoreless action was broken when Dalton State scored to take a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute. Montreat would refuse to fade and tied the match for a second time when Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) found the back of the net in the 79th minute. The celebration would be short-lived, as the Roadrunners scored again fifty seconds later in what proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 win for the home team. 

The Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, September 7th as they host the University of Pikeville at 3pm at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.


CENTRAL, SC - The Montreat College men's soccer team kicked off the 2016 season by travelling to South Carolina to take on Southern-Wesleyan University. Montreat took a 1-0 lead into the second half but the Warriors scored twice in the second half to take a 2-1 victory.

The Cavaliers got on the board first when Dale McClelland (JR/Ayr, Scotland) scored off of an assist from Fransico Prada in the 40th minute. The Warriors got off nine shots in the frame but were unable to score as Montreat took their lead into halftime. In the second half, Southern Wesleyan got going and tied the game in the 62nd minute. The Warriors would strike again in the 80th minute and would hold off the Montreat attack to seal the win.

Miguel Tudon (JR/Vila-Real, Spain) cam through with 11 saves for the match. The Cavaliers got off five shots, with four being on goal.

Montreat will be back in action on Monday, September 5th when they travel to take on Dalton State. Match time is set for 6pm.
