COLUMBIA, SC - The Montreat College men's soccer team continued their run of impressive play, securing a big 3-0 win on the road against Columbia International on Saturday.
The Cavaliers (5-3, 0-1 AAC) got on the board in the 8th minute when Joevanni Ordaz chipped in a shot over the keeper to give the team a 1-0 lead. Both defneses would clamp down for the rest of the first half and the teams would remain scoreless until Adrian Ionescu (JR/Queensland, Australia) drilled a free kick into the back of the net in the 77th minute to push the Montreat lead to 2-0. Late in the 85th minute Dale McClelland (JR/Ayr, Scotland) connected with George Stanley (JR/West Yorkshire, England), who scored to seal the victory. Miguel Tudon (JR/Vila-Real, Spain) was excellent in goal, shutting down the Rams for his third shutout of the season.
Montreat, winners of five of their last six matches, will be back in action on Homecoming Saturday (October 1st) when they play host to #13 Union (KY) at 3:30pm at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.
BEREA, KY - The Montreat College men's soccer team picked up another win on Monday, shutting out Berea College 6-0.
The victory was the fourth in five games for the Cavaliers (4-3, 0-1 AAC) and their second shutout of the season. Jeovanni Ordaz (SO/Veracruz, Mexico) got things going early in the match when he struck for an unassisted goal in the 4th minute. Montreat would find the back of the net again six minutes later when Blake Kennedy (SR/Gladstone, Australia) found Dale McClelland (JR/Ayr, Scotland) for a score to push the lead to 2-0 ten minutes into the match. Francisco Prade would add a goal in the 13th minute while Ordaz capitalized on a penalty kick for his second goal just before the half as the Cavaliers took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Montreat would add to their lead as McClelland found Prado for a score in the 52nd minute. Just before the final horn, the Cavaliers got one final score courtesy of Aaron Trevarthen (JR/McGraths Hill, Australia).
Francisco Gonzalz and Chua A (SO/Kontum, Vietnam) combined to post a shutout in goal. Montreat outshot Berea 12-5 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cavaliers will be back in action on Saturday, September 24th when they travel to take on Columbia International. Match time is set for 7pm.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC - The Montreat College men's soccer team had their three-match winning streak snapped as they fell 2-0 to Reinhardt University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.
The Eagles scored both of their goals in the first half, with the first coming in the 18th minute. After a red card ejection put the Cavaliers a man down in the 26th minute, Reinhardt quickly capitalized and scored their second goal just 70 seconds later.The Eagles kept the Cavalier attack at bay in the second half an came through with the victory.
Montreat (3-3, 0-1 AAC) will be back in action on Monday, September 19th when they travel to take on Berea College. Match time is set for 3pm.
