MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College baseball team ended their week on a high note after taking two games of a three game home series against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe St. Andrews.

In the lone Saturday affair, the Knights struck first, using a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Cavaliers would respond in the bottom part of the inning when Tray Hill (JR/Chickamauga, GA) hit a two-run double that was followed by a wild pitch that allowed Daniel Branon (SR/Greensboro, NC) to score and give Montreat a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cavaliers would strike again when they used a trio of hits and a wild pitch to put three more runs on the board and grow their lead to 6-2. After a Chase Day (JR/Easley,SC) single drove in Danilo De Armas (SO/Miami, FL) in the sixth to make the score 7-2, Montreat looked poised to cruise to an easy win. However, the Knights responded and scored three runs in their final at-bat to cut the Cavalier lead to one run. With the tying run on third and two outs, pitcher John Cassandra (SO/Cumming, GA) was able to get the next Bryan hitter to fly out to end the game and preserve a 7-6 win for Montreat.

Stephen Adams (JR/Jacksonville, FL) picked up a pair of hits and an RB in the win while Danilo De Armas reached base three times and scored three runs. De Armas also knocked in a run and nabbed two stolen bases. Cassandra went the distance on the mound, picking up six strikeouts in the win.

In game one of Sunday's double header, St. Andrews jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Cavaliers used a Tray Hill solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1 after the first inning. The Knights would score three more runs in the third to build a strong 6-1 lead but the Cavaliers got back into the game with a tremendous fourth inning. In that frame Tray Hill singled and was driven in two batters later when Dylan Jones (SR/Leicester, NC) launched a 1-0 pitch over the wall for a home run. Later in the inning, a Robert Hernandez (FR/Miami, FL) single would drive in John Cassadra and Grayson Snipes (JR/Lancaster, SC) to cut the lead to 6-5. The Cavaliers would be unable to get any more offense going and the Knights used a seventh inning insurance run to seal a 7-5 victory.

The Knights got both of their runs in the second inning and stifled the Cavalier bats until the sixth inning when  doubles from Robert Hernandez and Chase Day, as well as a Dylan Jones base hit, helped get two runs across the plate and tie the game at 2-2. The score would remain the same after regulation and the teams headed to extra innings. In the bottom of the eight inning, Stephen Adams singled and drove in pich-runner Daniel Branon to give Montreat the victory. The Cavaliers collected ten hits on th game and got two each from Danilo De Armas, Chase Day, Dylan Jones, and Stephen Adams.
