ASHVILLE, NC - The Applachian Athletic Conference has released their All-Conference accolades for the 2016 baseball season and the Montreat Cavaliers were represented in a number of ways.

First baseman Tray Hill (JR/Chickamauga, GA) highlighted the effort for the Cavaliers as he was named to the All-AAC First team. The first baseman hit a sturdy .312 on the season while leading the conference with 15 home runs and 49 runs batted in.

Pitcher Daniel Collins (FR/Guyton, GA) was selected to represent Montreat on the Champions of Character team.

Collins was joined on the AAC All-Academic team by teammates Daniel Branon (SR/Greensboro, NC), Nick Bray (JR/Alpharetta, GA), John Cassandra (SO/Cumming, GA), Kyle Nyenhuis (SR/Charlotte, NC), and Grayson Snipes (JR/Lancaster, SC).

MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College baseball team wrapped up the 2016 season at home by taking one of three games against Point University in Appalachian Athletic Conference action over the weekend. 

In the first game on Friday, Point jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third but the Cavaliers responded in the bottom of the inning after a Chase Day (JR/Easley,SC) single drove in Bradley Oakes (JR/Asheville, NC). Montreat would take the lead an inning later when Oakes singled to drive in Frank Perez (FR/Miami, FL). That would be the last score and Point would score five runs over the final three innings to take a 6-2 win. 

Robert Hernandez (FR/Miami, FL) collected two hits for the Cavaliers, who were held two five hits for the game. Montreat was also hampered by miscues as they had five errors on the game. 

In the second game, the offenses for both teams were on full display. After the Skyhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, the Cavaliers got going. After two walks and a base hit loaded the bases, Chase Day stepped to the plate and drove a 1-0 pitch over the wall for a grand slam that tied the game at 4-4. Point would retake the lead after scoring a run in the fourth and grew that lead to 10-4 after a five-run fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cavaliers strung together four hits and four runs to draw within two runs at 10-8. After the Skyhawks went scoreless in the top of the sixth, Montreat cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning after Tray Hill (JR/Chickamauga, GA) hit his 15th home run of the season. After Dylan Jones (SR/Leicester, NC) followed suit with a double, Nick Bray (JR/Alpharetta, GA) put the Cavaliers on top with a two-run homer that gave Montreat the lead at 11-10. The Skyhawks refused to go away and scored a game-tying run in the seventh to force extra innings. After both teams went scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, Daniel Collins (FR/Guyton, GA) got through the tenth inning on the mound to give the Cavaliers a chance for the win. After Tray Hill was hit by a pitch, Dylan Jones hit a double that put  both runners in scoring position. Nick Bray would follow up his clutch homer run with a game-winning single to give Montreat a wild 12-11 win. 

The Cavaliers had fourteen hits for the game, six of which went for extra bases. Dylan Jones was 4-6 with two dobules and an RBI while Bray, Hill, and Grayson Snipes (JR/Lancaster, SC) all collected two hits. 

On Saturday, Point would take command early in the series finale and cruise to a 16-4 win. Dylan Jones went 2-4 with a pair of doubles while Chase Day added his second home run in two days. Daniel Branon (SR/Greensboro, NC) went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. 

The team completes the season with a 15-38 record overall, including 7-20 in the AAC.



KNOXVILLE, TN - The Montreat College baseball team ended the road portion of their 2016 season by sweeping a double-header against Johnson University on Wednesday.

After falling beind 4-2 after three innings in the first game, the Cavaliers exploded for twelve runs over the final two innings to roll to a 14-4 victory. Dylan Jones (SR/Leicester, NC) went 3-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.Tray Hill (JR/Chickamauga, GA) matched Jones' hit total with three of his own while the Cavaliers got two RBI each from Bradley Oakes (JR/Asheville, NC), Zack Jones, Chase Day (JR/Easley,SC), and Nick Bray (JR/Alpharetta, GA).

In the second game, the Cavaliers scored three runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish in an 8-2 win. Grayson Snipes (JR/Lancaster, SC) went 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Stephen Adams (JR/Jacksonville, FL) went 2-4 with an RBI while Tray Hill went 1-2 with a pair of RBI. 

The Cavaliers will conclude their regular season by hosting Point University for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday, April 29th.
