On Saturday, Montreat College Cross Country once again hosted the Hyder-McMahill High School Invitational at Montreat's Black Mountain Campus. One of the most scenic courses in the area, the rolling hills and well-manicured trails continue to draw some of the area's top competition. On the women's side, Asheville High School went 1-2 overall with Naomi Cartier and Anne Worth finished together in 21:45.84 and 21:45.92 respectively, but it was TC Roberson who took home the team title after putting five runners in the top 8 positions overall and accounting for a mere 26 points. Asheville High was second with 54 points.
Due to damage caused by last night's flash floods, the One Fund 5K scheduled for Friday July 12th, 2013 at 5:30 PM has been postponed until a future date.
"Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating with us for the race this year,"explains Montreat Cross Country and Track Coach Justin Herbert. "This is such a great event that so many people have worked hard to create. SoleHope, our Cross Country program, Janel Cox, Annina Gruber, and so many more people have been involved in establishing this event and putting it on, so it's disappointing that we've been forced to postpone the race, but we'll go back to the drawing board, find another weekend, and put the race on later in the year so that we can continue to support these two great charities--SoleHope and Boston's One Fund."
