Niota, TN - The Montreat College women's golf team kicked off their fall campaign by traveling to Niota, Tennessee to compete in a tournament hosted by AAC foe Tennessee-Wesleyan. The young Cavaliers completed the two-day affair at the Springbrook Golf Club with an 11th place team finish.
Emily McFarland (FR/McLeansville, NC) was the day one low-scorer for the Cavaliers, posting a mark of 88 on Monday. On Tuesday, Alivia Daniels (FR/King, NC) led the way with her score of 92. Teammate Lauren Bullock (FR/Fuquay-Varina, NC) was right behind her with a score of 93.
McFarland ended the tournament as the top finisher for the Cavaliers, finishing in a tie for 46th place with a combined score of 190. Bullock finished in a tie for 51st with a score of 192 while Daniels was close behind in 54th (194). Samantha Telsrow (FR/Belmont, NC) completed the scoring for the Cavaliers, finishing 61st with a score of 222.
"I'm very proud of the way the girls played this week," said head coach John Sullivan. "This was the first collegiate tournament for all of them, and while this is certainly a very young team, they played their hearts out. We will definitely use this first event as a learning experience and focus on the areas that need improvement going forward."
The women's golf team will be back on the road next week (September 28-29) as they travel to Waleska, Georgia to compete in the Reinhardt University Fall Invitational.
