GREENVILLE, SC - The Montreat College men's soccer team used a huge second-half surge to overcome a two-goal deficit and come through with a 4-2 win against ob Jones University on Tuesday evening. 

The Bruins struck first, scoring a goal in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead they would hold into halftime. The Bruins would continue to press offensively early in the second half and pushed their lead to 2-0 on a goal in the 48th minute. The Cavaliers would regroup and finally got on the scoreboard when Jeovanni Ordaz (SO/Veracruz, Mexico) found Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) for a score at the 49:05 mark. Just seconds later, the Cavaliers would earn a penalty kick for a tackle in the penalty box. Dale McClelland (JR/Ayr, Scotland) put the ball through to tie the match at 2-2. 

From that point, momentum would remain on the Montreat side as the Cavaliers took the lead when George Stanley (JR/West Yorkshire, England) found Duarte for a score in the 56th minute. Stanley would get another assist eleven minutes later when he connected with Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) for a goal in the 67th minute to seal the win for Montreat. 

The Cavaliers will be back in action on Saturday, September 17th when they open up Appalachian Athletic Conference play at home against Reinhardt. Match time at Pulliam Stadium is set for 4:30pm.


BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC - The Montreat College men's soccer team capped off their week in high form, scoring early and often in a 12-0 win against Hiwassee College on Saturday afternoon at Pulliam Stadium.

The Cavaliers (2-2) scored six goals in each half and had three players record hat tricks for the match. Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) continued his strong play by scoring four goals while teammates Dale McClelland (JR/Ayr, Scotland) and Jeodanni Ordaz scored three goals apiece. For the second straigh match, the Montreat reserves got quality minutes and got goals from Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Adrian Ionescu (JR/Queensland, Australia) to complete the high-scoring affair for the Cavaliers. 

Five of the Montreat goals were assisted with Juan Carlos Ramirez (SO/Guadalajara, Mexico) dishing out two of them. Miguel Tudon (JR/Vila-Real, Spain) led a strong defensive effort as he collected two saves while in goal to earn his first shutout of the season. 

Montreat will next play on Tuesday, September 13 when they travel to take on Bob Jones. Match time is set for 6:00p


BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC – The Montreat College men's soccer team picked up their first win of the year, knocking off Pikeville 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.

The Cavaliers (1-2) got off to a strong start in the first half, scoring three goals while shutting down the Bears' attack.  Francisco Prado (FR/Quito, Ecuador) was very aggressive offensively for the Cavaliers as the freshman scored twice with eight shots on goal. Aaron Trevarthen (JR/McGraths Hill, Australia) also scored twice during the match while Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) also found the back of the net for Montreat.

Coach Brenton Benware was able to get his reserves some valuable experience in the second half as Montreat scored four additional goals to put the contest out of reach. Adrian Ionescu (JR/Queensland, Australia) was one of nine reserves who saw action and he scored one of the four second half goals for the Cavaliers.

Montreat will be back in action on Saturday, September 10th as they host Hiawassee College at 4:30pm at Howard Fisher Memorial Field.
