BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC - The Montreat College men's soccer team has grown accustomed to dramatic finishes over the final stretch of the regular season and their finale against Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Bluefield was no different. After the two sides finished regulation tied at two goals apiece, the Rams struck late in the first overtime period to take the 3-2 win. 

In the first half, the Cavaliers (8-8-1, 3-5-1 AAC) struck first when Jeovanni Ordaz (SO/Veracruz, Mexico) found Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) for a scoring strike in the 20th minute. That would be the only score of the first half as the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Rams went on the offensive and scored goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes to take a 2-1 lead. With their backs against the wall and time running out, the Cavaliers found new life when they were awarded a penalty kick with 70 seconds left in the match. Duarte calmly knocked the kick through and regulation ended with the score tied at two apiece. In the overtime period, the Cavaliers had a scoring opportunity when George Stanley (JR/West Yorkshire, England) squared up for a shot on goal in the 96th minute but it was saved and the match pressed on. Late in the 98th minute, with a second overtime looming, the Rams found an opening and scored the game-winning goal to end the thrilling match.

With the loss, the Cavaliers finish the season ranked 7th in the AAC and will open up play in the conference tournament as the #7 seed on Tuesday, November 1st when they host #10 seed Point University. DAYTON, TN - The Montreat College men's soccer team picked up a big road win Wednesday night, knocking off previously unbeaten and #10 ranked Bryan College 4-3 in overtime.

The Cavaliers (8-7-1, 3-4-1) jumped out to an early lead when Francisco Prado (FR/Quito, Ecuador) scored just over five minutes into the match. Montreat would increase their lead to 2-0 when George Stanley (JR/West Yorkshire, England) found Jeovanni Ordaz (SO/Veracruz, Mexico), who scored midway through the 15th minute. In the 30th minute, the Lions would get on the board and the Cavaliers would take their 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Bryan (13-1-3, 6-1-1 AAC) took control, scoring two goals in less than to minutes to take a 3-2 lead. After the second Lions goal in the 56th minute, the Cavaliers rebounded when Raphael Duarte (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) broke free for an equalizer in the 70th minute. The two teams would fend off several scoring opportunites the remainder of regulation and the match went into overtime.

The overtime period proved to be short-lived as Duarte found Henrique Cardoso (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) for the game-winning goal just 1:13 into the period. 

Montreat was outshot by the Lions 19-12 but managed to get the timely score to win the match. With the win, the Cavaliers move into a tie with Bluefield for 6th place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. That tie will be broken as the Cavaliers will host the Rams on Saturday, October 29th at 3:30pm in the regular season finale.


LAURINGBURG, NC - The Montreat College men's soccer team used some late-match heroics to take away a 1-0 win over St. Andrews in Appalachian Athletic Conferecen play on Saturday.

After battling through ninety minutes of scoreless regulation and a ten-minute first overtime period, the two sides seemed to be headed towards a scoreless draw until Blake Kennedy (SR/Gladstone, Australia) scored the lone goal of the match with less than two minutes to play. 

Both sides had their opportunities throughout the match as the Knights held a 25-15 advantage on shots. However, Francisco Gonzales was tremendous in goal for the Cavalires, coming through with 10 saves as he went the distance for the shutout.

With the win, the Cavaliers (7-7-1, 2-4-1) will now prepare to take on #11 Bryan on Wednesday, October 26th at 7pm.
