MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Bryan, 80-70 on Saturday in McAlister Gymnasium.

The Cavaliers (10-16, 6-12 AAC) fell behind 22-10 after the first period and that proved to be the difference as the teams scored evenly the remainder of the game. Montreat made a final push in the fourth quarter cutting the lead to five points after a basket by Niroshka Perez (JR/Asheville, NC) with 1:05 left to play. However, the Lions would ht their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Montreat was spurred on by balanced scoring as five players reached double figures. Hannah Calloway (SO/Swannanoa, NC) scored 16 points while Arianna Williams (FR/Lawrenceville, GA) scored 15 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Shannon Jackson (SR/Charleston, SC) earned a double-double after scoring 12 points and grabbing eleven rebounds. Niroshka Perez scored 15 points with eight rebounds. Darah DeWalt (FR/Charlotte, NC) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds for the game.

"I am very proud of my team tonight," said head coach Meghan Austin. "We came out and competed against the top team in the conference for 40 minutes.  Before the game I asked them to come out and give it all they had and they did just that. We had a balanced offensive attack as all five starters were in double figures."

The Cavaliers will be back in action on Wednesday, February 17th as they travel to take on Columbia College. Tipoff is set for 6:30pm.

MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College women's basketball team fell to Bluefield College, 72-47 on Wednesday night at McAlister Gymnasium.

The Cavaliers struggled to gain traction offensively in the first half and found themselves down 42-21 at halftime. The offensive woes continued as Montreat was outscored 21-7 in the third period. The Cavaliers held a 17-11 scoring advantage over the final frame not enough as the Rams went home with the victory.

Darah DeWalt (FR/Charlotte, NC) led the Cavaliers with 11 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Niroshka Perez (JR/Asheville, NC) scored 10 points while Shannon Jackson (SR/Charleston, SC) corralled 7 rebounds.

The Cavaliers will stay at home for their upcoming matchup with AAC rival Bryan College on Saturday, February 13th. Tipoff at McAlister Gymnasium is set for 2pm.

CLEVELAND, GA - Despite a solid outing that had them in the lead for most of the game, the Montreat College women's basketball team dropped a close 79-75 decision to Truett-McConnell Wednesday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

The Cavaliers (10-13, 6-9 AAC) went back-and-forth with the Bears all night and took a 40-36 lead into halftime. A three-pointer from Niroshka Perez (JR/Asheville, NC) gave the Cavaliers a 49-41 lead with 5:19 remaining in the third period. From there, the Bears would begin to chip away at the lead and cut it to 58-57 as the final period began. The Bears clamped down in the final frame and held on to send Montreat to their fourth consecutive loss.

Niroshka Perez led the Cavaliers with 19 points, including hitting 4-10 three-pointers. Arianna Williams (FR/Lawrenceville, GA) scored 11 points while collecting eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Hannah Calloway (SO/Swannanoa, NC) added 14 points and Shannon Jackson (SR/Charleston, SC) picked up another double-double, grabbing a game high 13 rebounds to go with 10 points.

"It's always a hard night when the opposing post players shoot 6-9 from the 3-point line," said head coach Meghan Austin. "Our team competed but we came up a little short tonight."

The Cavaliers will look to get back in the win column as they kick off a three-game home stand on Saturday against Reinhardt University. Tipoff is set for 2pm.
