Inducted in 2006
Women's Basketball - Guard/Assistant Coach
As a Cavalier
Montreat College Athletic Department inducted Ms. Shon "Snippy" Snipes into their Hall of Fame at their 2007 annual athletic banquet.
Shon "Snippy" Snipes was born on October 16, 1971. She was born the eighth child to St. Clair and Geraldine Snipes, having four sisters and four brothers including her twin brother.
Shon played basketball two seasons at C.F. Jordan High School in Durham, NC, after suffering an ACL knee injury her freshman year. She was PAC-6 All-Conference Player, All Durham County Second Team, and team Most Valuable Player her senior season. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1990.
Shon entered Montreat-Anderson College in the fall of 1990. She suffered a second ACL knee injury during her freshman season. Shon would rehab and recover to play three and a half seasons as a Lady Cavalier. For her career, she scored 696 points, 309 rebounds, 196 assists, and 139 steals. Shon graduated Montreat-Anderson in 1994 with a degree in Human Services.
After Graduation
In addition to a full-time playing career, Shon served her alma mater
as assistant women's basketball coach for eight seasons and served two
seasons as head women's tennis coach. During her tenure as assistant
women's basketball coach, Shon helped lead the Lady Cavaliers to two
regular season conference championships, (1999-00 TVAC, 2000-01 AAC),
one AAC tournament championship (2001-02), and two appearances to the
NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship (2001, 2002).
For her significant contributions to this College, her community, its
student-athletes, and by her example, it is with great pleasure that I
induct Shon "Snippy" Snipes into the Cavalier Hall of Fame.
