Coach Sullivan begins his third season as head coach of the men's and women's golf program after being hired in September of 2014.

Sullivan came to Montreat after most recently serving at many high-end golf facilities throughout the Southeast, including The Grove Park Inn Resort, Brasstown Resort in Young Harris, GA, Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte, and most recently, Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville. A Class "A" certified teaching professional and member of the PGA of America, Coach Sullivan has extensive experience in both instruction and club fitting and is currently a certified Ping and Titleist club fitter. An accomplished player, John has excelled in various tournaments throughout the state.

"I would like to thank Athletic Director Larios, President Maurer, and the entire Montreat College community for the incredible opportunity to lead this program. I am very excited to become a part of the Cavalier family and look forward to leading these men and women on and off the course". In just his first year as head coach, after being tasked with the responsibility of rebuilding the program from the ground up, Coach Sullivan more than doubled the size of the men's and women's team, a major step forward in re-building and re-vitalizing a program that had been dormant for several years and brought the Cavaliers squad to a new level of competitiveness. In just their first season, Sullivan guided the men's team to their highest finish in program history with a 5th place finish in the AAC Conference Championship, while setting both new team and individual scoring records. Under Coach Sullivan, 8 players have earned AAC All Academic Honors. Since Sullivan's arrival in 2014, the golf program now boasts the largest team rosters in school history, while posting an overall team GPA of 3.2.

Sullivan is a 4 time member of the PGA President's Council on "Growing the Game", an honor bestowed on golf professionals who have excelled in leadership, player development, and the promotion of the game of golf to all sectors of players. Sullivan is also active in Get Golf Ready Development Programs and Play Golf America. Originally from Charlotte, he graduated from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC with a degree in Business Administration and Professional Golf Management with a minor in Marketing.

John and his wife Caitlin live in south Asheville.
