John Sullivan begins his second season as head coach of the men's and women's Cavalier golf program. With almost 20 years experience in the golf industry, in roles that have included club professional, tournament director and player, private instructor, and merchandiser, John has developed a love and passion for growing the game at all levels. A PGA certified "Class A" teaching professional, he brings extensive experience in teaching, including individual instruction, playing lessons, as well as junior and group clinics. Prior to coming to Montreat, John served as Assistant Golf Professional at The Omni Grove Park Inn Resort in Asheville. Following his tenure at Grove Park, he was the Head PGA Professional with Dick's Sporting Goods, becoming a certified Taylor Made, Callaway, Titleist, and Ping club fitter. A 2003 graduate of the PGA Professional Golf Management Training Program, John has served at many other high end golf facilities throughout the Southeast, including Brasstown Resort in Young Harris, GA, Gatlinburg Country Club in Pigeon Forge, TN, Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock, NC, and Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte, NC.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Larios, President Maurer, and the entire Montreat College community for this incredible opportunity to lead this program. I am very excited and honored to become a part of the Cavalier family and look forward to building a competitive and nationally recognized golf program while most importantly impacting the lives of these athletes for Christ". In just his first year as head coach, John successfully brought in the largest freshman recruiting class in the history of the Montreat golf program, doubling the size of the men's team, a major step forward in re-building and re-vitalizing a program that had been dormant for several years.
He is a 4 time member of the PGA President's Council on "Growing the Game" and is active in Get Golf Ready Development Programs and Play Golf America.
John and his wife Caitlin live in Asheville and attend Arden Presbyterian Church. Originally from Charlotte, he earned his degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Professional Golf Management and Marketing from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC.
