After a close battle this evening, the Montreat Cavaliers' volleyball team fell in five sets to the Bluefield Rams in Bluefield.

The Cavaliers came out quickly and won the first set, 25-23. The second set was just as close, with the Rams (15-10, 10-2) prevailing, 27-25.  The third was won convincingly by the hosts, 25-13, before the Cavaliers fought back with a 25-21 fourth set victory.

That forced a deciding fifth set, when the Rams proved why they were riding a five-match winning streak as they took the set, 15-7.

"We once again came out strong and let things slip away from us," said head coach Kristy Kamer. "We will get back at it and fix things for next week."

Highlights from the visitors included 20 digs from Courtney Glover (SR/Nashville, TN), followed closely by Kendra Johnson, with 18. Anyla Kryeziu led all attackers with 20 kills on the night, with Glover adding 12.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, the Cavaliers fell to one of the top teams in the AAC, the Union Bulldogs, in straight sets. For Montreat, it moved their record to 12-10 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

"We came out strong, but let the little things get us," said head coach Kristy Kamer.

For the Cavaliers, Anyla Kryeziu (SR/Prishtina, Kosovo) had the most kills by either team on the night with 12. "AK" is currently the league's Attacker of the Week. Abby Graham (SR/Chattanooga, TN), currently the league's Setter of the Week, led both teams with 31 assists. Jazzy Larsen (SO/Danville, IN) contributed nine kills and four digs, while Kendra Johnson (SR/Ararat, NC) had 16 digs on the evening. With the win, Union moved to 22-7 overall and 10-2 in the AAC.

Next up: The Cavaliers return home to face Tennessee Wesleyan (5-16, 1-10). Montreat defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets on the road on September 26. They host the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday (10/17) at McAlister Gym.
