Black Mountain, N.C. – As part of their 2017 Fall Prospect Day on Saturday, the Montreat Cavaliers' men's lacrosse team was thrilled to sign Orlando, Florida midfielder Jacob Buchman. Buchman attends Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida where he is a senior.

He first heard of Montreat through a "Meet Montreat" event near Orlando. "The speech from the President [Maurer] convinced him that he wanted to check it out," said head coach Ethan Kamholtz. "He was looking at bigger schools down in Florida. As soon as he got to campus he felt the Holy Spirit's presence here and had recently re-dedicated his life to Christ. He thought this is where he needed to be."

Buchman was visiting Montreat during his spring break and was unaware at the time that Montreat had a men's lacrosse team. Once on campus, he mentioned that he was interested in lacrosse, a group of lacrosse players was gathered together, and traction took hold. He later met with coaches Kamholtz and Will McMinn and participated in a Cavaliers' practice.

"I came here after I devoted my life to Christ a few months ago. Once I passed through that gate, I knew I had to be here," said Buchman.

"We're excited to have Jacob come here. [For] his future as a Christian business leader and a Christian man, we're really excited," said Jacob's father, Barry, who was on hand for the signing as well as one of Jacob's two sisters, Abbey.

"We're really excited, he's a tremendous fit for Montreat College," said Kamholtz.
