BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Despite intermittent rain and wind on Tuesday night, the Montreat Cavaliers held fast to earn a convincing 3-0 victory over the Bob Jones University Bruins at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain.

After a scoreless tie in the first half, the home team quickly got on the board in the second on a goal from Afonso Vieira (FR/Portugal) off a perfect feed from Juan Carlos Ramirez (JR/Guadalajara, Mexico). Montreat then added an unassisted score from Jesse Foreman (SO/Black Mountain, NC) to pull ahead by two. Vieira buried his second goal of the night off an assist from George Stanley (SR/West Yorkshire, England) to round out the Montreat scoring for the evening.

"We talked to the guys about being consistent throughout both halves," said head coach Michael Bruce about his team picking up the pace as the game progressed. "If we play how we played in the second half as soon as we start the game, I think we'll be very positive this season."

Montreat's defense and goalkeeper Miguel Tudon (SR/Vila-Real, Spain) shut down the visting Bruins from first to last whistle. The Cavs have now posted consecutive shutouts for the first time since September 19 and 24 of last year. "Another shutout, which was good to see," said Bruce of the team's defensive effort. "It was really great for these guys collectively as a unit, just building together, and the way they played in the second half, which is outstanding."

With the loss the Bruins fell to 1-4, while Montreat advanced to 3-1 on the year. The Cavs now have eight days to prepare for Truett McConnell University on September 20 at 4:00 p.m. in Cleveland, Georgia.
