Montreat, NC - On Wednesday, April 12th, the Montreat men's tennis team hosted Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III member, for their last home match of the year. The Cavaliers topped the Panthers, 6-3.


The Cavaliers went up 2-1 after taking two of the three doubles lines. At no.2 doubles, the duo of David Garcia and Eric Dunlap won 8-6. Tanner Wilhoit and Jacob Summerville also notched an 8-6 win at no.3 doubles.


Montreat would take no.1 singles with Leo Lucero winning 6-2, 6-2 and no.4 singles with Grayson Chumley winning 6-1, 6-1. At no.3 singles, Ben Cree would take the fifth point for the Cavaliers, winning 6-2, 6-0. Summerville would add another win for the Cavs at no.5 singles, winning 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.


"This was a great match to end the season on," head coach Andrew Cobb said. "It was great to see our only senior, Tanner, get a win for his last doubles match. He has been such an intricate role in our team culture and our success that it was great to see him finish on a high note, as well as getting a team win for the last match of the season."


Next up, the Cavaliers will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the AAC Conference Tournaments. The first round of play is scheduled for April 28th.
