Montreat, NC - The Montreat Cavaliers got two much needed wins today against Johnson University by the scores of 14-7 and 6-1. It was the first time the Cavaliers strung two wins together since February 11th against Trinity Baptist. With these wins Montreat moves to 13-25 and tries to put together a little streak before facing conference foes Union College this weekend.


The offense was on point today in game 1 as the Cavaliers finished the game with 13 hits. Leading the way was Nick Bray (SR/Alpharetta, GA) who was 2-2 with 4 RBIs. Danny Fernandez (SO/Miami, FL) awoke from a slumber to go 2-3 with 3 RBIs to contribute to the offensive surge. Ricardo DeArmas (JR/Miami, FL) and Chase Day (SR/Easley, SC) also continued their hot hitting collecting 2 hits apiece.

Mitchell Donahue (JR/LaGrange, GA) overcame a shaky first to settle down and record his first win of the year. Donahue went 5 innings giving up 6 hits and 5ER to go along with 5BB. Will Angel (FR/Shelby, NC) came in and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in his 2/3 when Cameron Gregory (FR/Pickens, GA) came on to close it out. Gregory went 1 1/3 strking out 2 to finish the game.

Game 2 for the Cavs started as well as game 1 as they scored 4 runs in the first inning and that was all they needed as pitcher Tanner Parham (SO/Granite Falls, NC) gained his first win on the mound.Tanner went 5 innings of shutout ball only giving up 3 hits. He then gave way to Coleson Parks (FR/Huntersville, NC) who gave up a run on a wild pitch in his inning on 1 hit. Matthew Bumgarner (FR/Lincolnton, NC) finished the game with a perfect 7th striking out 1.

Offensively SR Eli Ledford (SR/Asheville, NC) was 2-4 with 2 RBIs including 2 HRs which gave him 3 for the day and lead the team with 11. Mason Biddix (SO/Granite Falls, NC) also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs as he recorded his first HR of the year. Lastly Danny Fernandez continued his hot hitting contributing 2 more RBIs for the day. On the day the Cavs offense showed some power hitting 8 HRs on the day. This weekend Montreat will host their Senior Day on Saturday before the start of the noon game with Union College and the festivities will begin at approximately 11:45am. Friday double header will start at noon sharp. Please come out and pay tribute to our Seniors of 2017.
