GREENVILLE, SC - The Montreat College men's basketball team dropped a 90-88 decision to Bob Jones University on Monday night.
Although the Cavaliers (19-8, 12-7 AAC) held a 39-38 advantage at halftime, the Bruins came out hot in the second half and built up an 18 point lead with just under seven minutes to play in the contest. A 17-2 run by Montreat was not enough as the Bruins took the lead to 81-78 with 2:05 left to play. The Cavaliers would get within two points on three separate occasions in the final minutes but they were unable to capitalize as Bob Jones held on for the victory.
Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) led the Cavaliers with 23 points on 10-12 shooting while D.J. Caldwell (SO/Charlotte, NC) and David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) both scored 17 points. Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) scored 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who shot 41% (28-68) from the floor and connected on 32% (8-25) of his three-point attempts.
The team will conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 18th when they travel to take on Tennessee-Wesleyan. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
