Head Men's Basketball Coach Lincoln Walters signed his newest player this past week. 6'7" Erich Allen, from Jacksonville, Florida played at 7A Fleming Island High School. Allen was a First Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-County performer. As a senior he averaged 18 ppg, and 7 rpg and led his team to a 22-5 record on the season.

Coach Walters' comments on Erich Allen: "We liked Erich when we saw him down in Florida, but we fell in love with him when he came to Montreat for his campus visit. He is a perfect fit for Montreat and he's going to be an extremely solid player in the AAC (Appalachian Athletic Conference). He's the type of guy that feels comfortable playing with his back to the basket and at the same time is a strong threat from about 18 feet out. As excited as we are about recruiting him for basketball, we're even more enthusiastic about Erich the person. He seemed to fit in immediately on his visit with our returners. A lot of times that cohesiveness among players can go much further than any skill or ability."

The left handed standout was the District 6, Class 7A Player of the Year and was named to the Class 7A All-State Team by the Florida High School Coaches Association. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to come to Montreat (College). Out of all the schools that were recruiting me, Coach Walters seemed most interested in who I am as a player and a person," says Allen.

Allen is the fourth Varsity player the Cavaliers have signed this season. Walters lost five seniors from this past season's team, but seems to be optimistic about what's in store for the upcoming year. "Although we lost a big piece of who we are, I'm confident in the class we've recruited along with what we have returning. We are finalizing one more student-athlete right now and the 12-13 class will be complete."

This will be the first year that the entire roster will be made up of Coach Walters' recruits. Stay up to date with the latest news and info on the Men's Basketball Program and all other Montreat sports at
